The Gift of Family, Friendship & Divine Connections

Sometimes, God doesn’t just send people into our lives — He sends them with a purpose.
As August comes to an end, I find myself reflecting with a deeply grateful heart. I thank God for a very fulfilling, fruitful and connection-filled month.
One thing I have come to believe is this: God, in His infinite wisdom, connects us with people every day, and it is our responsibility to recognise, nurture and harness those connections. We never truly know who we are meeting, what their story is, or how that encounter may shape our journey.
This August reminded me of just how powerful family and friendship can be.
Celebrating Young Talent and Proud Families
In the middle of August, I had the privilege of meeting more than 100 young actors and actresses and their families who gathered for the 47th Young Artist Awards — the “Young Oscars” — at the Directors Guild of America.
What a beautiful sight it was!
Behind every young person being celebrated was a family cheering them on. I saw parents beaming with pride, celebrating not only the achievements of their children but also the sacrifices, encouragement and countless hours that helped them get there.
Some families had travelled from Australia, London and different parts of the United States to be part of this special occasion.
And it wasn’t simply about an awards ceremony. For many families, it became an opportunity to spend quality time together, explore, laugh, celebrate and create memories that will live far beyond that one evening.
Even guest host Terry Crews attended with his beautiful family, adding to the wonderful atmosphere of celebration.
It reminded me that achievements are even more meaningful when you have people to celebrate them with.
From Hollywood to Coventry
Then, back in the UK, my August took another beautiful turn.
During the final week of the month, I had the privilege of spending time with more than 1,000 families, with the youngest being just six weeks old, as we gathered to celebrate the love of Jesus.
At the beautiful campus of Warwick University in Coventry, where I was volunteering with CAFOD, I witnessed something truly special — a spirit-filled conference where families came together to fellowship, learn, worship, laugh and have fun.
Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different stories.
But one thing united us: family, faith and community.
And once again, I saw friendships being formed.
People who had arrived as strangers left having made new connections. Conversations became friendships, and friendships have the potential to grow into relationships that last for years — sometimes even becoming like family.
Family Matters
With everything happening in our world today, I believe the importance of family cannot be overstated.
Family gives us a place to belong.
Family reminds us who we are.
Family celebrates us in our victories and holds us together during difficult seasons.
But family isn’t always defined by blood alone. Sometimes, God places people in our path who become family through love, loyalty, shared experiences and genuine connection.
That is why making new friends matters.
You never know who you are meeting.
The stranger you smile at today could become a lifelong friend tomorrow. The person you encourage could one day encourage you when you need it most. A simple conversation could become the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Every connection carries a possibility.
So as August comes to a close, I encourage you to pause and reflect.
Think about your family.
Think about the people you connected with this month.
Think about the friendships you started, the relationships you strengthened and even the brief encounters that made you smile.
Ask yourself: Who did God place in my path this month, and how can I nurture those connections?
Life is a journey, and we were never meant to walk it alone.
May we continue to cherish our families, welcome new friendships and remain open to the divine connections God brings into our lives.
Here’s to the memories we have made, the friendships we have begun, and the beautiful relationships still to come.
